As I listened to the presidential debates, I started to think about what will happen to the job market depending on which candidate is elected president. So let’s see which industries will be hot if Barack Obama is elected president. Next week, I will look at the growth industries if John McCain is elected president.
I will start by saying that we are living in troubling economic times and that my observations could be materially affected by certain extraordinary developments. So if this happens, many of my suggestions could change dramatically.
Senator Obama stated last night that it if every American’s right to receive healthcare and that his future healthcare plans reflect this focus. As a result of plans, there will be an incremental investment in the healthcare industry. Job opportunities for nurses, hospital and home healthcare workers and insurance healthcare workers would likely increase as a result of Obama's healthcare plan.
In the campaign rhetoric, there has been a significant amount of discussion on the importance of developing additional sources of energy. The proposals have included expanded drilling for oil, development of clean coal and even nuclear energy, as well as other green energy opportunities. As a result, companies that focus on existing energy and those focused on alternative energy sources will experience a great growth possibility.
If the economy continues to worsen and if Senator Obama raises corporate taxes, many companies may shift away from full-time employees to more flexible temporary staffing. If this occurs, companies that provide consulting and outsourcing services, such as Manpower, Inc. and Accenture, will become more desirable and likely grow to meet the increased demand for thier services.
