Beyond.com recently released its Third Quarter 2008 Career Trend Analysis and Industry Outlook Reports, which analyze and report employment trends across more than 25 industries.
The Q3 report indicated that Healthcare & Medical is currently the #1 industry, representing 12.92% of all jobs posted to the Beyond.com Network in Q3 2008. In a time when many industries are declining as a result of the economic recession, Healthcare & Medical jobs are on the rise and experienced a 2.66 percent increase over the past 12 months.
Research has shown financial concerns during recessionary times often lead to increased stress, depression and mental illness that require treatment at a time when some people can’t afford health insurance or take preventative measures. These factors, in addition to the aging population, the ongoing nursing shortage and growth of outpatient services requires an increased number of healthcare professionals to keep up with the growing demands of the population.
Some of the healthcare positions that experienced the largest percentage increase in jobs in Q3 2008 included: Admissions Clerk (9.03%), Medical Assistant (8.66%) and Medical Records Assistant (8.14%).
However, some industries were not as fortunate. In Q3 2008, Information Technology experienced the largest percent decrease in jobs (1.09%) and fell from the #1 industry position for the first time in six consecutive quarters. IT is currently ranked as the #2 industry for jobs posted to the Beyond.com Network in Q3 2008 with 12.90 percent.
Some of the IT positions that experienced the largest percentage decrease in jobs included: Web Developer (-14.48%), DBA (-11.99%) and System Engineer (-11.41%).
